Why September Is a Great Time to Build a Fence or Deck

Summer always seems to go faster than expected.

Back in May or June, replacing that leaning fence or finally dealing with the old deck might have been on the list. Then came vacations, weekends away, yard work and everything else that fills a summer.

Now we're heading into the last week of August, and you might be wondering: Did we leave it too late?

Not at all.

September is a great time to tackle a fence or deck in Brantford and the surrounding area.

Your Fence Doesn't Have to Fall Down Before You Fix It

A leaning post, gate that won't close properly, loose boards or sections starting to rot are all signs your fence needs some attention.

That doesn't automatically mean you need a whole new fence.

Sometimes a fence repair is all that's needed. If several posts or sections are failing, however, continuing to patch an older fence may not be the best use of your money.

A good contractor should be willing to tell you the difference.

If your fence struggled through this summer, dealing with it now can also prevent you from heading into another Southern Ontario winter with an already weakened fence.

Soft or deteriorating boards, loose railings, uneven decking or areas that don't feel as solid as they should are worth having looked at.

And a tired deck doesn't always need to be completely torn down. Depending on the existing structure, deck refacing may be an option. Deck additions and privacy walls can also make an existing space work better without starting completely from scratch.

The goal should be finding the solution that makes sense for your home and budget, not automatically turning it into the biggest possible project.

Is September Too Late?

No. The end of summer is not the end of fence and deck season! In fact, it is a great time to book - it avoids the spring rush and gives more you flexibility in booking, especially with the kiddos back in school.
